Validity

Means of transport:

The Travel Pass is valid in all services managed by Consorcio Regional de Transportes de Madrid:

  • Metro Network.
  • Madrid EMT Urban Buses Network: except for the Airport Express EMT Bus Line
  • Cercanías Renfe (including line C-9 Cercedilla-Cotos).
  • Light Rail Network.
  • Urban buses lines of other municipalities of the Madrid Region.
  • Suburban bus lines of Madrid Region and certain municipalities of Castilla-La Mancha.

Zones:

There are eight zones of validity for the Travel Pass, six zones for Madrid Region and the remaining two for Castilla-La Mancha Region.

The Travel Pass must be used within its validity zone. Each zone includes the previous one; this means that B2 zone Travel Pass is valid for zones A, B1 and B2, except the inter-zones Travel Passes: B1-B2, B2-B3, B3-C1 and C1-C2 only valid for those zones to which belong the tickets.

However, it is possible to use travel passes with the current fare out of its validity zone by paying a complementary cost to the operating company, except Travel Pass of the E2 zone.;e.g., a B2 Travel Pass may be used in a trip A-B3 by acquiring a single ticket to supplement this last zone.

The Travel Pass of zone A has no validity for the suburban bus lines with stops in Madrid city, with exception of the Line 500 from the Prisei Company, as well as Lines 601 and 602 from Alacuber Company that have their whole route in the municipality of Madrid.

Learn more about the unification of fares for zones B3, C1 and C2

Do the validity zones of the Travel Passes change?

The validity zones remain unchanged. Only the fares of the B3, C1 and C2 internal passes to the Community of Madrid are equal. If you want to travel to C2 or C1 zones, you must acquire a valid ticket for that zone.

Do the fares for single tickets and 10 trips change?

The unification of fares only affects the internal Travel Passes to the Community of Madrid. Single and 10-trip tickets remain unchanged.

Can I continue using the pass that I loaded before the fare change?

You can use these tickets during 2022 until they are used up. The amount of the acquired tickets is not refunded.

If you want to take advantage of the new fares, it is possible to exchange your ticket even if it is started. The current year fares are applied to the exchange, regardless of the price at which the ticket to be exchanged was acquired.

Where can I exchange my Travel Pass to the most beneficial one after the fare change?

You can exchange your Travel Pass at any point of sale: metro network, light rail, Renfe Cercanías, tobacconists and other authorized points of sale and in the Management Offices. It is not possible through the APP.

How can I benefit from fares unification?

At the time of purchase of your usual Travel Pass, you should bear in mind that you can purchase another for a higher zone with the same cost. For instance:

  • If you usually charge B3 or C1, you can buy C2 (one-time fee of € 82).
  • If you usually charge B1-B3 or B1-C1, you can purchase B1-C2 (single fare of € 54.60).
  • If you usually charge B2-B3 or B2-C1 you can buy B2-C2 (single fare of € 47.90).
  • To move between zones B3, C1 and C2 you pay the minimum fare, € 47.90. For the same price, you can buy B2-C2.

I live in a C2 municipality, is my municipality B3 from now on?

The municipalities in zones C1 and C2 continue to have the same fare zone, only the fare of the Transport Pass necessary to travel to these municipalities changes.

How does the measure affect zones E1 and E2?

The unification of fares does not affect these fare zones and the Travel Passes to travel to both zones maintain their fare.

What should I do to renew my Annual Pass if the fare change affects it?

If your Annual Pass is modified due to the change in fares, at the time of renewal the ticket in which the same fare applies and is more beneficial for you will be charged. This way you will be able to enjoy the advantages of this unification throughout the year. That is:

  • If you are going to renew B3 a C2 will be charged.
  • If you are going to renew B1-B3 or B1-C1, B1-C2 will be charged.
  • If you are going to renew B2-B3 / B2-C1 / B3-C1 / B3-C2 / C1-C2, B2-C2 will be charged.
